This all new Game Room will be a virtual arcade where players will be able to engage themselves in some of the most classic games such as Centipede, Asteroids Deluxe etc.
The game will involve avatars of the Xbox 360 users and will also be offering voice chat capabilities. To play in the Game Room, both Xbox and Games For Windows user will be required to purchase the Xbox Live Achievement system, that has been introduced and is currently available for both platforms. The users will be able to sens customized invitations and messages to their friends.
The users can download the Microsoft Game Room absolutely free of charge when it launches in Spring this year, but to play the games and make a collection of your favorite arcade titles, you would have to purchase the games from Microsoft. The users will be given Microsoft points for the amount of money they spend and then they can use these points at the Xbox LIVE marketplace to be redeemed into games.
In a statement, the Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices Division President, Robbie Bach said,
“There’s a generation of people who grew up with a set of games like Centipede that are favorites. They look almost like casual, fun games today, (but) at the time they were high-end, edgy games. Game Room is the idea of bringing that back to the market and bringing that to a very broad audience. I think you’re going to have the same phenomenon with Game Room. Even the people who would call themselves ‘hardcore gamers’ are going to think that it’s fun in a retro way.”
