Indian election has escalated the sales of the local brand liquor. This has been a traditional method of wooing the party voters in India. People are employed specially for the purpose of picking up cheap liquor from the outlets the supply points.

The distributors make it a point to overstock the various vendors, so that there is a greater mileage of sales. Indian election is one occasion that these local liquor brands mint money. Customized liquor sachets of 10-15 ml are also supplied for the ease of distribution to the party voters. Increased production during these times keeps all the members of the supply chain busy, right from the producer to the seller. The members of the political parties, sometimes even the candidates make bulk orders of such drinks. Most of the times, these politicians ask for discounts of bulk orders, cutting down on the profits of the manufacturer. Supplies of liquor are mostly pumped into the rural sector often through illegal channels. All these are ways of winning the heart, then of course the votes of the uneducated rural lot.

However, strict vigil is kept as per the order of the Election Commission on the stock level of liquor in shops. The sale of alcohol is banned 48 hours prior to the election day and also on the day in counting day.
