The need of environment friendly transportation to save our ecosystem has forced nearly all countries to scramble and find innovative solutions to combat the issue of rising carbon emissions and the congested metropolitans. China, the world’s most populous nation is now heading towards an incredible lead in innovative eco-friendly public transportation, in the form of the ‘Straddling Bus’. This one of a kind eco-friendly solution to the country’s highly aggravated transport system was first unveiled at the 13th Beijing International High-tech Expo in May this year and has now stepped into the planning phase for its development.

These large sized buses will have a ground clearance of an astounding 4 meters to 4.5 meters, thereby making it possible for the conventional cars to pass right beneath the bus itself, as they would do under a over bridge. The buses itself will be comprised of two levels, wherein, the upper levels will be designated as the passenger space and the lower level will be mark as a passage way for vehicles, that are lower than 2 meters. The Straddling Bus will be powered by solar energy and electricity and the top speed of this incredible bus is said to be 60 km/h with a maximum passenger load of 1200 to 1400 in one trip. Each of these Straddling Buses will cost $74,000 per piece.
