China, Russia, and Iran have been influencing Latin America

Nations like China, Russia, and Iran have been making progress in influencing Latin American leaders, altogether producing an anti-US sentiment that was largely spurred by George W. Bush’s foreign policy that saw the US falling out with and drifting away from Latin America. This is a case of the cat being away and the mice being able to play. Because of hostilities with the Bush administration, such leftist leaders as Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, Bolivia’s Evo Morales, and Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega resorted to campaigning for an anti-US sentiment while gravitating towards China, Iran, and Russia that have been readily on hand to provide these Latin American countries with much-needed aid.

It has been well known that Iran and China, most especially, have been making inroads in Latin America by building very strong economic and political connections with many of the Latin American leaders.

The current Obama administration has decidedly taken a more reconciliatory stance with the ‘old enemies’ of the US. The new administration thinks that, while there will not be rapid progress at reconciliations mostly because of opposing views on governance and government styles, there will be no harm in trying, either.
