Panda Burning Incense virus that created havoc among the users in China about three years ago, might be about to surface, in a new avatar as per one of the world’s premier internet security firms, McAfee. The spread of the Panda virus, which was originally known as Fujacks had led to widespread loss of data and it was the first time China witnessed arrests of programmers on the charges of virus writing.
According to Vu Nguyen (McAfee Labs),
“It has gotten more complex with the addition of a rootkit. It definitely makes it more challenging for users to clean up and even to know that their systems have been compromised.”
When the Panda first hit in China three years ago, it left a trademark telltale that a computer has been infected as the icons on the system were replaced by a Panda holding three incense sticks and the viruses were deployed to invade the host computers and steal user credentials including passwords. The solution to the virus was later written by the same individual who had written the virus in the first place and was later sentenced to four years in prison.
However, experts believe that the new Panda variant virus will not be able to do much damage as the today’s users are far more cautious and also understand the need of computer security.
