A Chinese sentenced to death for having killed six police in Shanghai was executed on the morning of Wednesday, reported the state news agency Xinhua.
The young Yang Jia, 28, a native of Beijing, was arrested in July, after invading a police station in Shanghai and stab the police in a crime that has gained wide coverage in the press in the country.
Yang burned the gateway to the police station and threw for manufacturing homemade bombs inside the building to create commotion, and then attacked the officers with a knife in the midst of confusion. He killed six people and injured four more.
In court, Yang said he attacked the officers because they were tortured during an interrogation related to the theft of a bicycle.
The case of Yang caused controversy and divided public opinion in the country. Several expressed sympathy for young Internet users in online forums and criticized the way the Chinese police commonly abuses of power.
The censure of the government deleted more aggressive comments in some forums, but still the international press managed to publish notes in which some people called Yang of hero.
That division of public opinion may mean a big problem for the Chinese government because until when the government can suppress these individual demonstrations?
