A confidential EU report reveals that the Israeli government has been illegally occupying East Jerusalem and settlers continue to evict Palestinians and build houses. There are an estimated 200,000 Jews settled in east Jerusalem and most houses of Palestinians are demolished on charges of being built illegally. The EU report states that the demolitions of these houses are illegal under the international law and that they serve no obvious purpose.
The fourth Geneva Convention explicitly states that it is illegal for an occupying power to extend its jurisdiction to an occupied territory. The secret EU report states that settlements are being built at an extraordinary place and Palestinians are being evicted after demolishing their houses on an everyday basis. Most evicted Palestinians are forced to stay in camps in West Bank under gruesome conditions.
EU report states that the Israeli government’s goal is to cleanse east Jerusalem of Arabs, and sever East Jerusalem from West Bank in order to unify it with West Jerusalem and “create territorial contiguity”. Palestinians meanwhile continue to dwindle in numbers in east Jerusalem and the ones that are left behind are arrested on false charges of terrorism or imprisoned and deported to West Bank.
