Google likes to boast that more than 2 million businesses using Google Apps. But IT professionals are still concerned about security in the cloud and the limited functionality provided by the tools of the company.
Cloud computing was one of the main topics discussed at Burton Group Catalyst conference, held last week in the United States. But when interviewing the public present at the event, the responses suggest that the search giant and other providers of computing still have some way to go if you want to trust the experts that their security model is really appropriate.
First it is important to emphasize that, although considering that Google Apps still need some advanced features already available in Microsoft Office, IT professionals acknowledge that they are impressed with the capabilities of the tool for collaboration on the Web
The maker of Windows, of course, is now getting into the business of hosting cloud with versions of Exchange, SharePoint and Office Web Apps, and will face the same risks.
Drew Bartkiewicz, a speaker at the conference, which runs the business from Hartford to secure businesses against cyber risks also pointed out that, unfortunately, a majority of the monetary damages are limited to the value of the contract, which may not cover the cost of a case of theft.
Despite the security concerns related to cloud computing, some visitors of the conference have expressed some interest in applications of search giant.
