Anxiety disorders are a huge cause of concern amongst the children today. Hitherto, there has always been the fear and doubts of prescribing antidepressant drugs to children diagnosed with anxiety disorders. According to the researchers and various experts in the field of psychology support the new treatment, a combination of behavior therapy and antidepressant sertraline (Zoloft) that works better than either of the treatments alone.
This treatment is a boon to those parents whose children suffer from anxiety disorders. This can be supported by the news reported on October 30 by Online Edition of the New England Journal of Medicine. According to Anne Marie Albano, a co-author of the said study, there are three effective treatment choices for the children and adolescents diagnosed with anxiety disorders but the twin treatment of Zoloft and behavior therapy is the best choice of all.
Albano also opines that anxiety disorders are not a phase but they can be debilitating and lead to other anxiety disorders to depression and finally resulting in substance abuse. This clearly sends the loud warning bells to the parents of children suffering from anxiety disorders. This combo treatment maybe effective for children diagnosed anxiety disorders.
