What happens when everyone in the family gets to have a say in that dream home? Chances are, your little wishes could find their way into the design. More so if your dad is the designer. British architect Alex Michaelis, did that with his home. So one of most notable features of his home is what his kids wanted – a slide, a climbing wall, a football table…So he got a slide built alongside the staircase.

Or still better, some designers do manage to break the monotony by breaking the staircase into two with a great landing, some study space or seating area. But with safety and strength of the structure playing most on their minds, innovation takes a back seat. To get into the mind of a child and manage to incorporate those wishes, is something architects seldom indulge in.
The slide in Michaelis’ home has attracted friends in plenty, and he says even grown-ups cannot resist skipping the stairs. After all, there is a child in every adult!
