Businesses should support a variety of mobile platforms, as long as they provided focus and their efforts on the IOS operating systems (iPhone), Blackberry and Android, says research firm Forrester.
The three are among the four systems more compatible with the standards of the corporate market, evidenced by the study “Mobile Operating System Wars Escalate”. In this classification, who is second is Windows Mobile – behind the Blackberry – but there are more programs being adapted to the IOS that soon, according to Forrester, will take the place of the Microsoft OS.
Android should follow the same path, thanks to its good safety properties and the large market share – achieved in just two years. Thus, the tendency is that Windows Mobile is left behind, even as his successor, Windows 7 Phone has already begun.
The limited space devoted to the once dominant Palm, Nokia and failure in attracting developers to the Symbian platform, left them at a disadvantage when it comes to support that IT departments place on them. According to Forrester, only 12% of companies approved the use of Palm cell phones, and Symbian accept only 7%.
The index for about 70% for the BlackBerry, compared to 41% of Windows Mobile and 29% of iPhone. Android is already supported by 13% – a low figure compared to its importance in the mobile industry.
For Forrester, companies should no longer be limited to only one operating system that “historically, has always been the BlackBerry.” In research, the institute found that half of companies surveyed – were heard 175 telecom and IT companies in North America and Europe – supports two or more platforms, and 29% three or more.
