Microsoft Corporation has announced that it has released Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and an upgraded version of the MS Server OS to selected computer manufacturers. As per Microsoft’s trade practices, before the release of any of its operating systems, Microsoft provides the OS to the manufacturers, before the standalone packages hit the commercial markets. This practice is known as R.T.M (Release To Manufacturing).
Microsoft Windows 7 is a much anticipated replacement for Windows Vista operating system, as Vista is considered to be too heavy for most users, who work on standard personal computers. Also, Windows Vista has been widely discredited due to the fact that, it fails to support numerous software and devices, that are crucial for homes and businesses. According to Mike Angiulo (GM, Microsoft Windows),
“We are not trying to under-promise or over-promise -– or be early or late. We have hit each engineering milestone and been predictable and reliable with our partners. This is the first time we haven’t doubled the system requirements with a new release.”
As far as reliability of Microsoft Windows 7 is concerned, Microsoft has made it abundantly clear that, this time around, it has driven its entire focus on research, features and usability and has given less attention to looks. During the developmental stages of Windows 7, Microsoft went through 10 million testers, who sent back valuable information about the operating system. This culminated to 400 millions sessions worth of feedback, that Microsoft used to improve Windows 7 operating system.
