Computers may cause photofobia

People who are exposed to excess light from the computer screen should make a quick break every hour to relax the eye muscles. The practice may be effective against the development of photophobia.

Photophobia is the name given to excessive sensitivity to artificial light and sunlight. This sensitivity occurs when the photosensitive cells from the retina refuse excess light and causes discomfort. Usually photophobia occurs as a manifestation of any eye problems resulting from congenital diseases, inflammatory diseases and allergies. The eye problem that occurs and it causes photophobia is astigmatism, a disorder characterized by the change of circular shape of the cornea making it oval.

The photophobia may occur in individuals of all ages, from newborns to the elderly presenting a problem cited above or independent of any problem presenting only sensitivity. White people, blond and albino are willing to be sensitive to light. To detect the problem is necessary that the person who feels such sensitivity search an ophthalmologist as soon as possible for the cause of the problem.

The treatment for photophobia is variable because it depends on the cause that produced it. In cases arising from diseases need to treat it as soon as possible, but in cases where there is no kind of disease there is treatment. In this case, what is important and that has to do is get used to the lightness or use lenses / goggles to protect eyes against the light. It is rare for cases where the photophobia may be manifested in normal eyes, but it can happen depending on the size of the pupils, since the greater the pupils more light will reach the cornea and the shorter the lower the occurrence will be.
