Counter Campaigns: After Atheist Bus Campaign Comes the Faith Campaign

First there was ‘Probably there is no God’ Atheist Bus Campaign in London. Buses in London carried this message for over two months. Now that the campaign is coming to close, the Faith campaign begins. It is amusing that one of the basic and oldest arguments regarding existence of God is being carried out on London buses. This trend of campaigns and counter campaigns is good news for advertising industry though. Also it is symbolic that during the time of recession and terrorism focus is again shifting back to faith related arguments.

While the atheism campaign was done by British Humanist Association with people like Richard Dawkins donating for the cause, ‘there is God campaign’ is being carried out by various faith groups. So for next two weeks buses in London will carry ads to reinstate the faith back in God. How did it all start? Well, atheism campaign was a direct response to faith ads which are usually placed in buses instilling fear of punishment for deeds and encouraging faith conversions. Atheism campaign did toe a soft line by using the words ‘Probably’ thus avoiding direct confrontation with faith. But faithful Christian groups are not being ambiguous about their faith.

Hope such arguments continue and advertising becomes more argumentive, enjoyable and trendy.
