Imagine what would happen to the future of technology if you could avail of solar cells that are so easy to manufacture that they are literally printed out like money. Apparently, this isn’t some fascinating sci-fi idea but is actually possible now.

CSIRO, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, has come up with a way to develop solar cells that are almost paper thin. These flexible light plastic solar cells can be printed out like money and the print trials done by the scientists have so far been successful. Printing out possibly 100 kilometres of paper-thin solar cells which could be put into practically any use, this heralds the beginning of a new era for solar cell technology. Fascinatingly, according to CSIRO, the solar cells can even be used on water since they are light enough to float.

CSIRO hopes to make the printable cells available for commercial use in about five years but after receiving the news of the possibility it seems too long a time to wait for something as amazing as this.
