“You are the crisis,” read the posters. The anti-riot police dispersed them with tear gas. Hundreds of people gathered in Geneva to protest against the Davos World Economic Forum. In Geneva, where the World Economic Forum has its headquarters, the anti-riot police fired tear gas and threw water to disperse a crowd that had gathered at a plaza near the train station, making people run away in all directions. Witnesses said there appeared to be no violence from protesters.

With signs that said “you are the crisis,” they called the financial and political elite as not qualified to solve the problems of the world. True enough, no solutions to the world economic crisis came out of the Davos conference.

The protesters did not mince words when they said, “They are the same people who came last year and said the world economic situation was good, and now we are in a financial crisis. Now, it is the taxpayer who has to solve the whole problem. It’s people like you and me who have to pay for it with our tax money.”

People participating at the World Economic Forum are supposedly the shakers and movers of world economic development. Unfortunately, they are also the ones responsible for the economic crisis that has now gone global. These brilliant minds that have been mandated to precisely avert any impending economic doom through these economic planning forums were not bright enough to see what was coming.

This only means one thing. These people come to these conferences armed with hypothetical and rhetorical information. They have subsisted on various reports and statistics that land on their tables from purported experts, bureaucrats, and technocrats who advise them.

In other words, these world leaders do not really have their ear to the ground. That is why they hardly had any inkling that the ground would soon crumble beneath them.

Davos has not achieved anything. These world leaders that attended the conference will only retreat back to their countries with nary a solution to the devastating global economic problem.

What a waste of junket resources.
