Dell has launched a new notebook that promises to be huge competition for Apple and may just be the beginning of the road to stealing Apple’s humongous fan vase. The Dell Latitude Z600 is quite a looker and it also intends to garner the attention of the business IT users with some interesting hardware and software upgrades.
The 16 inch 4.6 pound Dell Latitude Z600 features an instant-boot Linux based operating system titled ‘ON’ and a daughtercard containing a TI OMAP SoC. Apart from fast booting, this provides users with the ability to receive mail over the WiFi or 3G network while the laptop is closed, negating the necessity to connect to the network. The notebook does this by going into idle mode and if you desire to save even more power then you could shift to a low power idle mode (the only difference here being that you receive mails in breaks of 6 minutes).
The Latitude Z600 also includes a wireless charging dock and wireless HD video and I/O capabilities. Plus, with the FaceAware feature that uses the 2MP built-in camera, the system is automatically locked when the user steps away from it. The Z600 includes some more nifty details that would appeal to any user. At $2,000, this is for the purely professional.
