If one were to Google two keywords, ‘gay Jesus’, one would find a result of up to 664,000. This can only imply that though people may argue against the idea, Jesus could have been gay. This also shows that there has been more than a fleeting thought about the world’s most famous man’s confused sexuality. There are several journals, and theories already that claim that Jesus was gay. US Biblical Scholar from the Columbia University, Morten Smith found a fragment of manuscript near Mar Saba Monastery in Jerusalem which supports this claim.
Not only is there enough proofs for arousing such doubts, but Jesus’ confused sexuality might have been the reason for his crucifixion., Jewish law enforced crucifixion as punishment for sodomy or sex between two men. Surprisingly, Jon the Baptist could have been gay too, for the original “Baptisms” were not about just dipping oneself in River Jordan, but could have been about sexual union between two men, the master and the initiate.
However, the way Jesus got heterosexualized to appeal to the masses, John the Baptist got heterosexualized too. These findings and thoughts are especially interesting when the Catholic Church strongly condemns homosexuality and also believes in the ‘evil’ nature of using condoms. These claims and findings are especially significant when Catholic Church and the pope have taken a stand against the existence of Gay people. It is also worthy to note that the Pope advocates against the use of condoms.
Meanwhile, it really doesn’t matter whether Jesus was gay or he wasn’t. What matters are the Catholic Church’s attempts to continue the persecution of homosexuals and advocate non-usage of condoms which could result in a catastrophe, thanks to all the HIV spreading so easily. It is also noteworthy that Catholic Church has been entangled in a vicious controversy of sexual abuse of young choir boys and priests by older Catholics in the Church.
Sexual repression is common among all religions, and as Tori Amos would say “I have enough guilt to start my own religion” in Crucify, only the guilty rationalize their cravings and use defense mechanisms to hide their burning sexuality in the name of religion. It is sad, but many homosexuals have been murdered in the name of Jesus, and in the name of other religious leaders, while they were quite gay possibly, themselves.
