Teenage Engineering, Swedish product design studio may design a low-cost DIY turntable kit. Their basic credo is to create products that are built with functional design, superior quality, and top class engineering. While the credo sounds cool, the turntable is apparently made out of Styrofoam, which is not environmental friendly.

Nevertheless, the turntable may come with amazing designs that deserve applause. For example, the base of the player and the arm are made out of CNCd Styrofoam to accept the belt underneath. Besides, the turntable also works as a standalone player with a built-in amplifier and speaker. It also comes with a USB connection that will help you convert vinyl into digital auto.

However, Teenage Engineering does not have any immediate plans of putting the Styrofoam turntable into production. So, until the Styrofoam Turntable hits the commercial market, you can visit their website and submit your e-mail address to keep yourself au fait with the latest updates. It will indeed be very nice if this turntable ever becomes real. At the same time, I wonder why there has to be so much of a hype built around the product when nothing about it has been materialized.
