Do You Think You Have Enough Space for Yourself in the Cyberspace?

You may have begun to dream about having your own web address and might have tried to come up with a good and unique name that would not only provide you that unique id but also a unique identity to help you stand out from millions of other websites.

However, as it turns out, there seems to be no space in the virtual world to house your website. Currently the Web largely uses IPv4 and is limited to a 32-bit number. This means there could be only 4 billion unique addresses. The idea is to bring the IPv6 which would use 128-bit addresses and that would give 4 billion addresses to each of the person in the world.

Facebook, Google and other big companies have already foreseen the trend and taken steps to avoid a major Internet catastrophe. There also should be a smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6. While most of us do not understand these jargons, we might have to wait till someone makes it clearer for us to understand. Right now, just buy any domain that you may have ever wanted. Chances are, you may not find that name again.
