Once the Holiday Season ends, the preparations for the Award Season starts and it seems that excellent films compete for the main prizes, as long excellent actors, directors and scriptwriters.
This is the case of Milk, directed by Gus Van Sant, with a top cast that includes names such as Emile Hirsch (Cleve Jones), Sean Penn (Harvey Milk), Diego Luna (Jack Lira), Josh Brolin (Dan White), James Franco ( Scott Smith).
The story told in this movie is the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay political in U.S. history. In the 70s, he was supervisor of the City of San Francisco, being assassinated in 1978 along with Mayor George Moscone.
Milk was considered by the New York Film Critics Circle the Best Film of 2008.
Sean Penn (who plays the protagonist) is already listed as a possible winner of the Oscar for Best Actor. Josh Brolin is also being mentioned as a possible candidate for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Another actor that deserves mention is James Franco.
The film began to draw the attention of the media when Sean Penn said he was excited in one of the scenes in which kissed James Franco. Penn said he called for Madonna to tell her the curious incident.
Jokes aside, this movie is undoubtedly one of the best work of Gus Van Sant that, among other films, directed Elephant and Drugstore Cowboy.
