Ignoring anxiety can only do more harm than facing it, researchers have found. A 42 year old woman approached a psychologist and reported high levels of anxiety and strange feelings at the back of her head. She revealed that it was not due to menopause and they were not hot flushes. However, she also reported to be always on her toes and that made her very inefficient at work.
She also constantly fears something wrong would happen and some calamity would befall upon her. She thinks she is very helpless about what might happen to her in the future. She thinks too much and cannot stop worrying. She is usually dressed well and behaves properly. She is however co-operative with the therapist and is currently under therapy for anxiety related symptoms.
Such people who are usually co-operative and confide everything to the therapist have greater chances of overcoming anxiety, as proven by many researches. If you know anyone around you who is going through symptoms of anxiety, it is better not to ignore them as a passing phase and it is important to bring them to the notice of a health worker or a psychologist, as they would be better trained to deal with the situation than let it spiral down.
