Dreipuls’ Award-winning Rima Light Lets Users Customise Their Illumination

There are lamps and there are lamps. Then there are more lamps. If you thought the part photo frame, part table lamp called Tao 84000 would remain one of the coolest lamps over a long period, you should think again! German designer Dreipuls has come up with the Rima Light, an award-winning desk light design.

The unique Rima Light has picked up the prestigious 2010 Red Dot Design Award. It is a desk lamp that is high on style and usability. With its stalk-like limbs stretching out for balance, the Rima Light may seem a tad fragile but it scores on portability. It does not have to be fitted on to a desk. And even if it is, it takes up minimal space, leaving plenty of free desk area for books, stationery and other items.

The computer-controlled LEDs in the Rima Light from Dreipuls work in a rather ingenious way, almost like an abacus. The central tube has a number of rings that slide right and left to control the amount of light coming through. It is almost like moving beads on a horizontal abacus. At last, you can wave goodbye to those unwieldy lamps that refuse to illuminate according to your needs.

The Rima Light allows users to customise the kind of light being used. Not only can you control the amount of light coming through, you can also change the colour of the light. How many table lamps give you that option? On the minus side, the contraption may seem a tad too low. But given the Rima Light’s many pros, does that really matter?
