One of the most famed and fast selling electronic book reader, Kindle from Amazon has now been said to be the driving force behind, Amazon’s amazing sales run during the holiday shopping season this year, as per the annual post-Christmas statement on holiday sales released by Amazon.com Inc. Perhaps the biggest contributing factor to the sales of the Kindle, was the fluctuating supply of Barnes & Noble’s e-book reader, Nook that was reportedly absent from the store shelves, especially during the holiday season.

As per the estimates released by the company, in a first ever in the history of Amazon, the consumers flocked its website on Christmas to purchase the digital versions of their favorite titles as against the physical books, thereby adding to the soaring revenue of Amazon. December 14th, 2009 witnessed a massive surge in online sales for the company, with more than 9.5 million items being sold in just 24 hours.

The soaring sales list of Amazon was topped by the Kindle and closely followed by Apple’s iPod Touch 8GB and the Garmin Nuvi 260W GPS. In the field of wireless communication, Nokia’s 5800 XpressMusic, Plantronics 510 Bluetooth Headset, and BlackBerry Bold 9700 Phone made the headlines with each of these amazing gadgets making their way to the consumers via Amazon online retail stores. Among other commodities, the biggest launch this year in the gaming industry, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and some of the most sought after software, such asMicrosoft Office Home and Student 2007, Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 etc. also witnessed sharp increase in sales.
