Earth Hour 2009: Will It Make A Difference?

The stress on global warming and saving energy has been increasing over the past few years. This has become even more apparent by the ‘global blackout’ initiated yesterday. Though not occurring for the first time, Earth Hour of this year was observed with more gusto and aimed to accomplish much more.

Earth Hour observation first began in 2007 and Sydney, Australia, was the first city to go dark in the attempt to keep Gaya alive. If the target amount of 1 billion people ‘voted for Earth’ by switching off their lights during the assigned one hour on the 28th of March, the votes would be presented to world leaders at the global Climate Change Conference to be held at Copenhagen this year. Vote Earth calls out for every person irrespective of race, religion, sex, and more, to care about Earth and what we are making of it. Though observed for one hour each year, the aim of the vote-taking is not about the one hour but an oath to change our lifestyle in the attempt to provide to the Earth’s healthy sustenance. Whether this was accomplished or not remains to be seen. Either ways, it was a strange sight when grand parts of the world went dark this Saturday and offered and light-less though beautiful view.

The Global Climate Change Conference may bring about a change in what is being done currently to combat global warming and may perhaps even lead to a new protocol to replace the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol is a UNFCC protocol aimed at the reduction of greenhouse gases the world over.

Sure it brings in the change TU(TrendsUpdates)

I have installed the plugin on my blog and I checked it while the Earth Hour clicked in. Eventhough I observed the decrease in the number of page count, I do not feel bad, as the Earth Hour has to be instilled in every one’s mind to invoke the thought to protect our Mother, Gaya.
