Way back in 2005, when the Singapore government put forward the idea of turning its dump-yard into an eco-tourism spot, the decision was ignored by the world as no one believed that this could ever happen. Three years later, the idea seems to be taking shape but with the eco taking over tourism.
Of late, the Singapore government has publicized that the Semaku island landfill created in 1999, 8kms off Singapore’s coast to dump the ash from incinerators across the country, was on its way to become an eco-park with a testing bed to promote the research and development of renewable and clean energy technologies and explore new applications in the field.
Even after three years, the so called eco-park isn’t there yet; people still have doubts about its appearance. Now it is for us to wait and watch if Singapore succeeds in its step towards supporting the cleaner technologies for a safer earth.
