Eco Vendor to Give up to $10,000 to Haiti Artisans

Eco-retailer Viva Terra, a sister concern of Ecosalon, has joined in the relief effort to provide for Haiti earthquake victims by donating up to $10,000 in profits from the sale of its Haitian-made products.

The profits will go on to aid 500 artisans and their families. Viva Terra plans to send the money directly to Caribbean Craft, an organization that has been set up to employ and give assistance to the talented crafts people who produce some of VivaTerra’s most loved products from a fair-trade workshop in Port-au-Prince.

Holiday angels, papier mache birds, and oil drum tree-of-life sculptures are some such products. The materials they employ in their designs are recycled newspapers, discarded oil drums and emptied cement bags – things that work towards arresting the devastation that could affect planet earth.

Viva Terra was founded in 2004 to encourage local artisans with a retail site and product catalog that would provide an audience for their imaginative handmade creations. It has products in over six main categories and sells things ranging from furniture, furnishings, home décor, kitchen utilities, to Valentines Day gifts and jewelry.
