Barack Obama’s energy and environment cabinet has a noble goal to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy generation. His administration has realized that carbon is costly over the long haul. It is apparent that the incoming administration at the White House knows too well that environment, energy and economy are all tied up with one another. Obama himself has made clear that his economic policy is also directly connected to his renewable energy plan. He and his people want to eradicate carbon from US economy.
This plan comes at a steep price with an initial estimated budget of $150B. For the first time, the US power grid and energy inputs will be reengineered to fit a carbon-less economy. Anti-carbon funds will go as far as replacing light-bulbs, installing solar panels, and constructing wind farms. It seems that biofuels will not be enjoying the same favorable allocations of federal fund subsidies. The strategy is clear: raise the cost of fossil fuels and outprice them from the market so that they can no longer be economically accessible.
The current US and global recession might just be auspicious for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Reducing carbon footprint should be a responsibility of all individuals on earth. A green US president, along with his green team, might just do wonders with showing their commitment and sticking to it, thereby influencing the population. If Obama and his team can sustain this move, the US might just recover from both a crippling recession as well as fossil fuel dependence.
