Exosystem consists of social systems, which children and adolescents don’t interact, or experience directly but will somehow influence their development. This may include a parent’s job, friends of the family, mass media, school board, legal services, neighbors, extended families etc. For Example: If a child is temperamentally affected, parents may perform badly at work and affect others, Likewise, if the parents are troubled by a nagging employer, they may displace their anger on the child and affect the development.
Macrosystem consists of the larger cultural and subcultural context in which a child’s development takes place. In a macrosystem, other sub systems such as exosystem, mesosystem and microsystem are embedded and thus everything influences the other. Cultures can greatly influence how children develop and so do subcultures.
In suburban cultures, children are usually left alone at home while parents work in town and that can influence their behavior. Also, in certain religions, it is considered bad for children to develop a strong sense of individuality, which also affects their development. It is always imperative to find a certain coherence between these two systems along with the Microsystem explained by Bronfenbrenner. This would help the child to grow in to a healthy individual.
