In the recent years, the Internet has greatly evolved from bulky desktops and notebooks to extremely convenient and highly useful mobile platforms such as tablet devices, cell phones etc. One of the oldest standing IT entity, Yahoo! has been know for its deftness in the field of mobile computing and since its deals with major mobile manufacturers such as Nokia, the company has in fact made a name for itself in mobile Internet.
However, the man behind Yahoo’s success in the mobile space, Holger Luedorf, has apparently resigned from Yahoo Inc. and has joined Foursquare, a name that is getting a lot of attention these days, especially since Yahoo’s unsuccessful bid to buy the company. Mr. Luedorf will be adorned with the position of Vice President, Mobile and Partnerships at Foursquare and as per reports, he has already quit Yahoo! and will be joining Foursquare next week. The acquisition of such a senior and experienced executive is being seen as a boon for Foursquare, that has already become widely popular in the U.S with is location based services. However, Foursquare needs to reach out to the rest of the world, in terms of making deals with OEMs, that would place the company on mobile devices across the globe and that’s where Holger Luedorf comes in.
According to Evan Cohen (General Manager, Foursquare),
“His focus will be on creating awesome partnerships with mobile carriers and OEMs that get Foursquare apps distribution on handsets around the world.”
