Facebook is the most popular site at workplaces

Facebook is the site most accessed in the workplace, beating search engines and e-mail. The research was conducted by the group Network Box, which works with international security work, and 13 billion URLs accessed in companies were analyzed.

In the first quarter of this year, Facebook represents 6.8% of all pages accessed on-working environment – an increase of 1% over the last three months of 2009. This amount is more than double the access to Google, placed second, and more than triple that of Yahoo, the third.

YouTube is, however, who else overwhelms corporate networks. The website alone consumes 10% of the bandwidth of these locations.

Simon Heron, an analyst at Network Box warns that corporate security managers have two great reasons to be concerned with the high use of social networks in the workplace: employees download applications that can compromise the security of protected networks and the bandwidth of Companies are not being used for corporate affairs.

Facebook is the fourth largest site for access to news channels (second only to search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN). Thus, it can be stated that the use of social networking at work is not only to contact people but also to monitor the news of the day.
