Facebook May Trounce MySpace Next Year

There are many avid users of Facebook like me and it looks like the social networking site will soon be more popular than MySpace in the US too. Facebook is hugely popular in the UK and MySpace has held the top position in the US. Facebook saw a surge of 47.5 million US based visitors in just November. MySpace still ranks high with a number of 59.1 and it may not be long before Facebook catches up with MySpace.

Though I may seem coloured, Facebook has a brighter interface and a slightly less annoying way of ‘things working out’. Why it still has not gained enough popularity in the US is a question that many wouldn’t be able to answer and it is equally difficult to tell why many people are moving away from MySpace to Facebook.

Oddly, it could even be possible that social networking sites stop being social and become more professional like LinkedIn, which has a tremendous growth, much more than Facebook itself has seen. Perhaps social networking sites would do well if the clutter like apps and features were removed and the interface was kept clean and tidy. Facebook has the advantage of looking better and also has unmatched privacy controls. However, the apps may make people shift to LinkedIn once they get tired of the site:
