facebook2 Facebook Revamps The News Feed Feature

The most widely used social networking website in the world, Facebook, has given an all new name and new parameters to its News Feed feature. The all new Live Feed has replaced its predecessor and it now incorporates a filter that, provides the most relevant activity updates only.

The News Feed feature was introduced in the year 2006 and it instantly got the attention of all Facebook users and that too for all the wrong reasons. Facebook users were appalled by the idea, that their each and every action were visible to everyone in the Facebook contact list and News Feed was considered as a tool for invasion of privacy.

However, the times and the mentality of the millions of users on Facebook has changed, as they have become increasingly social and are more than willing to share every event with their friends and families. Live Feed not only filters the unnecessary content, but also shows the users ‘best of the day’ updates from other users. This new feature was conceived by Google for GMail and was later purchased by Facebook for a whopping $50 million.

The whole idea behind Live Feed is to provide the users with a platform, where they can interact with new people on a much wider scale and can be updated about the events that are important to other users. There are bright prospects for such algorithms in the future, that not only act as medium of communication, but also analyze user behavior, interests and online activities, thereby predicting the user likes or dislikes and what updates should or should be displayed.
