Facebook Unveils An All New FB Profile Layout Called, ‘Facebook Timeline’ At F8 Conference

When it comes to social networking, there is no doubt that the top spot is claimed and retained by Facebook that in its seven years of operation has amassed a staggering 750 million plus users and continues to the social networking behemoth. Now, at the annual F8 conference, Facebook has unveiled an all-new revamp for the users’ profiles in the form of ‘Facebook Timeline’. Showcased by none other than Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, this brilliant new concept bring your entire life on to the front page of your FB profile, providing a real time stream of all your activities. Designed and developed as an essential tool for users who prefer to highly their individuality, Timeline essentially brings all your published stories, shared photos applications etc. on to your profile. This stunning new profile layout will retain all the current elements of your profile page, but will represent them in a more elegant and orderly fashion. For example, the ever famous ‘Wall’ will definitely be present in the Timeline window, but will be more streamlined, while the page will depict other elements such as friends, map, likes, photos and recent activities in an easy to locate and read panels.

The Facebook Timelines will provide the users with access to posts and other content they had shared, dating back to the year 2004. This presents the users with a unique insight into their FB existence from the day they joined the social network.  Another interesting change to the FB profile page along with the presence of Timeline will be ‘Facebook Cover’, which essentially is a large banner that can be configured by the users to greet their profile visitors with an especially banner size background image. With the emergence of this banner image, users will now be able to further personalize their profiles, while also retaining their Facebook display pictures. As of now, the Timeline layout has not been launched, however, interested FB users can still head over to the Timeline webpage and  sign up for the service as and when it’s implemented.

Update: How To Activate Facebook Timeline Before The Official Rollout:

For those of you, who have a tendency of being impatient when it comes to waiting for a new features in Facebook, TechCrunch has opened the doors to the Facebook Timelines, through some really easy steps. Here is what you have to do, if you plan to activate Timeline, before Facebook officially brings its to your profile doorstep!


1.  Once you log onto Facebook, key in ‘Developer’ in the search box and click on the first result that usually is an icon              representing three diagonally stacked tiles with ‘f’ written in blue color on the first one.

2.  Allow the Developer application to access Facebook, after which you’ll be taken to the developer page. Click on ‘Create a New App’ on the upper right side and give the new applications a name as well as a Namespace. However, remember  to keep the Namespace in small letters with use on only hyphens and underscores. After filling the captcha verification details, you’ll be taken you application page.



3.  Simply click on’ Save Changes’ on the application page and then click on ‘Open Graph’ link, located at the left side of             the page. At the Open Graph page, simply key in ‘read’ in the first box and ‘book’ in the other. Click on ‘Get Started ‘ and       you’ll be taken to the ‘Action Type’ page. All you have to do here is to scroll down click ‘Save Changes and Next’.                  Repeat this step for the next page and then hit ‘Save and Finish’ at the final page.



4.  Now, you’ll be shown the Open Graph app submission page. This is where you simply close the                                                          tab/windows and open a new one, where in you log on to your Facebook account and Voila!, sitting at the top is your          personal invitation to activate Timeline.


P.S: In the event that you wish to revert back to your old Facebook layout, simply follow Step 1 and once in the developer page, click ‘Delete App’ at the left side page menu.
