A group of popular rock, pop artists and musicians launched an organization called Featured Artists’ Coalition (FAC) in London last week. The Featured Artists’ Coalition is a collective voice of music makers, artists who want to have a greater say in music industry and protect the basic rights of performers and musicians.
Times are changing and digital age is going to change many rules of the game for the artists and music industry. The music labels and publishers are cashing on by striking deals with digital partners like Nokia, Youtube. The artists never get a fair share of the pie. On the other hand, for the artists too reaching out to the fans with music will no longer be a long drawn process since they can use power of internet and sell their music directly to their fans from their own website.
The list of artists behind the concept and creation of FAC include Robbie Williams, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and many others. The organisation will negotiate digital deals on behalf of artists and it also aims to provide training and advice to budding artists about copyright law and other issues.
This could be the much needed interface between the music artists, music industry and fans too. The artists must survive to create good art. Most often commercial interests tend to strangulate young artists even before they can taste success.
