Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the perpetrator of one of the deadliest shootings ever to occurs on a U.S army base bid his farewells to his friends, family and relatives before he went to inside the building where about 300 soldiers were waiting for their medical check ups and opened indiscriminate fire on his fellow comrades. The ongoing investigation into the behavior of Major Hasan has led the investigators searching through his computer, his personal belongings and even his garbage.
As per the statements given by Major Hasan’s relatives, the man was filled with discontent for having being deployed to Afghanistan and had repeatedly told his family that, his fellow soldiers on Fort Hood army base in Texas repeatedly harassed him for being a Muslim. Although the family has repeatedly stated the Major Hasan didn’t harbor radical ideologies, yet some of the soldiers at the location of the shootout have said that, the Major shouted out loud the Islamic slogan, “Allahu Akbar!” (God is Great) before he opened up on the unarmed soldiers.
In a statement, Major Hasan’s family said.
“Our family is filled with grief for the victims and their families involved in yesterday’s tragedy. We are mortified with what has unfolded and there is no justification, whatsoever, for what happened. We are all asking why this happened, and the answer is that we simply do not know.”
The wounded soldiers were taken to different hospitals across Texas and though some are recovering to the doctors’ satisfaction, there are still a few of the injured who have said to be in critical condition and might not make it out alive.
The Army Chief of Staff has immediately ordered a review of security across all U.S bases and has expressed his concerns over the possibility of a backlash against the Muslim soldiers serving in the U.S armed forces. The law enforcement agencies are also looking into a possible link between Major Hasan and a radical Islamist website, that carries some parts of his name and in which the author has stated that the suicide bombers are quite like soldiers who throw themselves over a grenade to save the life of their comrades along with other radical content.
