It was a black day for NATO-led forces in Afghanistan. Four British soldiers were killed on a single day. The troops were attacked at different places. The stand-off between militants and NATO forces is going from bad to worse. The conflicts are escalating and casualties are going up on both the sides. It is feared that nearly hundred civilians have been killed in the retaliatory air strikes by US led troops.

It is indeed sad that these NATO led troops consisting of soldiers from different countries are fighting and laying down their lives in a far away country. Two soldiers were even from Gorkha regiment of the British Army. It is well known that it’s difficult to fight battles on the harsh terrain of Afghanistan. Taleban hide-outs are difficult to locate. Thus troops are vulnerable for sudden attacks. More than 157 servicemen have lost lives in Afghanistan since 2001. Thousands of civilians have lost lives in the cross fire.

Obama has pledged more troops for Afghanistan. The militants are on the offensive too and the conflicts are going to escalate. The war in Afghanistan is far from over. Many more soldiers will not return alive to their home countries. Civilian deaths and scars of war will never heal Afghanistan. At the end of it all peace may never return in Afghanistan.
