The International Automobil-Ausstellung (Frankfurt Motor Show) has always been known as the demon god of all motor shows and it kicked off this year with a bang. Already, popular names in the auto industry have gotten busy flaunting their stuff; BMW got in yesterday with the eco friendly ActiveHybrid X6.
The ActiveHybrid X6 is the green youth’s ticket to a high flying lifestyle. As BMW’s very first full hybrid, the car packs a 4.4 litre twin twin-turbo V8 engine and two electric motors. The twin motors work separately, with one acting as the generator and the other keeping this in motion. The 5000 pound four seater car gives out 485hp and 575 lb-ft of torque powered by a nickel metal hydride power pack. On pure electric mode, the car is slightly slow going at 37mph but you still have the fuel engine to get things going faster.
With a kick-ass design, the ActiveHybrid X6 would have everyone clambering towards BMW when it goes into production in 2010. Until then, you can chek out the other cars on show at Frankfurt 2009, including the concept cars that will get through to producting only if you give the green signal.
