Ford goes eco-friendly with their new next-generation high-efficiency low-CO2 four-cylinder EcoBoost gasoline engine family. This was unveiled today at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. This is an innovative way of finding the right tune of power and economy. Ford aims to increase the power of its engines and reducing fuel consumption at the same time by combining the effects of direct-injection, variable valve timing, and turbocharging technologies.
The special feature these engines come with is that it will reduce 20% of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as against the conventional gasoline engines of the similar output and size. As of now, the new engines are available in 1.6 and 2.0 liter capacities. They plan to release an advanced capacity later.
These two engines will first be introduced in Europe starting 2010 and will soon reach North America too. The good news is Ford plans to globally produce 1.3 million EcoBoost engines annually 750,000 of these in the US. Ford also plans to offer EcoBoost engines about 90% of its global lineup. I hope they hurry up with the process very soon.
