The South Korean manufacturer Samsung has officially presented on Thursday, its representative in the world of tablets, dubbed Galaxy Tab.
Ready to compete directly with the IPAD, Apple‘s new device uses the mobile operating system Android 2.2 and will go on sale from October this year.
According to the company, the device can be used to access the Web, watch movies, read e-books, make telephone calls and navigation via GPS.
In addition to a 7-inch touchscreen and a resolution of 1024×600 pixels, the device also has a Cortex A8 processor 1GHz and 16GB of internal memory. With a slot for MicroSD cards, the storage capacity can be expanded to 32GB.
Galaxy Tab has two cameras: one with 3 megapixels and LED lamp, located on the back, and a second second front camera of 1.3 megapixels to perform video calls. It weighs 380 grams and measures 19 x 12 cm. Web connections can be made via 3G up to 7.2 Mbps (download) and 5.76 Mbps (upload) or higher speeds in Wi-Fi networks with 802.11n. The allowed formats for viewing videos are DivX, Xvid, WMV and MPEG-4.
The company will also install applications Layar, with assets of augmented reality, and Swype, which lets you enter text on a touch screen, just sliding your finger from one letter to another on a virtual keyboard.
To users who do not like virtual keyboards, Samsung also will market a physical keyboard, but as an optional accessory.
