Sometimes the already clichéd old adage that goes, “Old is Gold” is indeed true (literally). One such example is the world class violinists going crazy over violins that were created over 300 years ago. They are even willing to shell out millions to simply own an original instrument from the great 17th century Italian masters like Antonio Stradivari. Apparently, it is believed that the instruments used by any classical violinists are based on designs created over three centuries ago.
There definitely is something behind this craze. Well, at least I fail to comprehend the rationale behind it as a much better instrument can be created in today’s 21st century using the advanced technology and modern design techniques. An Austrian designer, Gerda Hopfgartner is working with a Viennese luthier on “Gavari Semiacoustic Violin”.
The designer was inspired by modern yachts, feminine curves and sundry corset outlines of the Baroque, Rococo and Biedermeier ages. Quite strange inspirations though! The Gavari violin is being shown now at the Tokyo Designers Week Exhibition. There is no mention about its price tags or release date either. While the violin looks modern and classy, its final worth will be judged by its sound quality. So get your hands on it and try it for yourself!
