Gay Rights Campaign Back on California Streets

After Obama’s great equality speeches about LGBT rights it is indeed unfortunate that California Supreme Court should do a U turn on gay marriages. On Tuesday, much to the dismay of all LGBT activists it upheld Proposition 8 and put a ban on gay marriages. Only solace was it did not nullify some 18,000 gay marriages.

Gay rights activists are back on the streets of California. They have vowed to keep their movement going and win their rights back by 2010. It would be a huge disappointment if Obama’s government continues to deny marriage rights to gay people. Especially after Obama’s talk about more inclusive US. He had wooed voters in his campaign and had brought the issue out of closet. He had given a hope of change.

The issue here is more than legal marriage rights to same sex partners. Even in modern times many countries are homophobic and continue to penalize large LGBT population and deny their basic rights.

The developed nations can really lead the way to change mindsets of the people. They can and must dictate a global cultural change and make modern society more equal, inclusive and healthy.

  1. How true! But have you seen the dollar note? It screams “In God We Trust”.

  2. Now that gay movement has come out of the closet they better re-interpret their gods!

Obama would say anything to buy a vote. Meanwhile the LGBT community is left in the lurch, dreaming of what could have been. How sick. No to 8!
