General Motors, one of the biggest automobile manufacturing companies in the United States has released an all new eco-friendly electric hybrid car, titled, Chevrolet Volt, that could easily revolutionize the environment friendly family car segment, provided the cost of the vehicle is made as such that the common man can afford it. Chevrolet Volt boasts of a combination of cutting edge technology, plush interiors and great comfort, all the while keeping the environment safe with low carbon emissions.
One of the striking factors about the Volt is its duel operating mode that allows the vehicle to run on electric power for 40 miles and the car switches over to a gasoline engine that not only powers the vehicle, but also recharges the batteries and out a pretty impressive mileage of 640 miles on a full tank of gasoline. The overall capacity of the gasoline tank is 12 gallons, thus putting out a decent fuel economy of 50 miles per gallon.
However, as with every other electric vehicle, the hurdle that faces the success of these innovative vehicles is the lack of electric charging stations. An average user can charge the Volt’s batteries in his garage, where it takes 3 hours for a complete recharge at 240v outlet. But, the trouble arises when the person is on the road, where, as of now there are hardly any recharging stations, thus making it a lot difficult for drivers to stay on the electric mode and for the vehicle to sustain its eco-friendly stature.
