Hitherto Ginza has been known as the fashion capital of Tokyo. It’s also been regarded as the very best district in Tokyo for shopping, gossiping over meal or just being seen over the past few decades. However, Ginza will soon lose some of the most well-renowned designer names such as; Loius Vuitton and Gucci from Japan’s most fashionable street. They will be replaced by lesser known companies like Uniqlo, Abercrombie & Fitch, H&M from Sweden and the Spanish chain Zara, which have all managed to open their stores in the previous year in the same street.
Recession is cited as the main culprit for the two of the most well-known fashion houses to pull down their shutters from Tokyo’s fashion capital. Loius Vuitton has also cancelled the plans to move into the building where Gucci store was set up. Gap will instead occupy the same building. Apparently, the operators of the Seibu department store also announced that their flagship store would be shutting their shutters before the year ends.
In the meanwhile, Forever 21, the U.S clothing retailer had announced that it would soon be setting up store in the near future. Albeit Ginza loses some of its snazzy fashion houses, the district will still be boasting of other attractive fashion stores. This will indeed bring in a lot of tourists as the prices are likely to come down. Long live Ginza!
