Google Book is under attack

Google received formal warning of the Department of Justice of the United States that investigators of the section of defense of the competition are evaluating the agreement of the company with publishers for online distribution of millions of books.

Under the agreement firmed in October gone by Google with Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers, the internet company agreed in paying US$ 125 million to create the Registration of Copyrights of Books. The system will allow that authors and publishers register works to receive compensations for the use of their works.

The plan of Google is to allow Internet users to make searches in millions of books with protected copyrights and also to buy them. Google admitted that the agreement can be modified if necessary. “We are open to that thing type… if it goes a valid argument”, said a spokesman.

Two specialists in digitization of books told Reuters in April that the Department of Justice was consulting them about the closed agreement for Google with the entities. North American state prosecutors were also asking for the specialists’ information.

3 great competitors of Google – Microsoft, Yahoo! and Amazon – are allied to undertake legal actions against Google Books.

The objective of Google is to allow Internet users to make searches in millions of books with protected rights and to acquire them.

For some Google Books’s project is the creation of a monopoly of the search engine about the electronic exploration of millions of works. For others it is a type of democratization and an opportunity of diffusion of the knowledge.
