The recession has hit the working class badly and although it had appeared for some time that big companies like Google may not be affected by this fall in economy, changes in such companies bring to view that almost everyone has been affected just as badly. Google had earlier prided on being one of the companies that could bring in employees and heighten the work satisfaction with the perks that it offered but these perks have been cut down over the past year.

In a recent interview, Google CEO Eric Schmidt and co-founder Sergey Brin insisted that although Google made people rich this should not be the reason why people should desire to join the company. According to Schmidt, Google is in the process of changing the world and any person involved with the company should be proud of being a part of it for this fact.

Since the recession hit the world economy, Google has cut down on its list of interesting perks like free haircuts, gourmet food, and more. The company had defended these offering for years stating that what they spent on the perks were nothing compared to what they got in return from their employees. With their new stand on the matter Google has come under a lot of criticism from employees and outsiders as well. However, it seems unfair since it isn’t the only company to be cutting down costs in these dire times and their reason for doing so is logical and understandable.
