Google Introduces Much Awaited Bike Directions To Google Maps

Google is all set to introduce an all new feature in its highly acclaimed and most widely used mapping service, Google Maps. The all new feature will now provide the users with routes and direction for those who prefer to travel by bikes. Recently, an online petition was launched to compel Google to add the biking direction feature in Google Maps. The petition that reached an impressive number of 5,000 supporters, it seems has finally been paid heed to by Google and the new feature is expected to be announced by the Product manager Shannon Guymon at the National Bike Summit in Washington D.C.

The all new biking feature will enable the users to find direction from one point to another in Google Maps. The biking directions will be accessible from the drop down menu of the mapping service, where it will joining the database of routes for users who prefer to walk or commute via cars or public transportation. Since the introduction if Google Maps, users have been Google to provide direction for bike travelers and in many cases several user generated maps of cities like New York and Minneapolis have also surfaced, for the bikers, but never officially from Google Inc.

The all new bike direction feature in Google Maps, will enable the users to access the latest and detailed routes designed specifically for bikers, thereby allowing them to avoid the freeways and busy streets for a safer journey. Google has accumulated the data for the new feature from the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy program. There is also speculation that even the bike directions could be carrying the immensely useful Street View and Trail View imagery.
