It seems only a matter of time before watching “Clash of the Titans” between Google and Facebook.
The latest indication of the closeness of this battle is the news that Google is negotiating with major companies developing games for a space of social media competitor to Facebook, which recently reached the milestone of 500 million users.
Among the companies are: Playdom, Electronic Arts, Playfish, Zynga Game Network and the second reported The Wall Street Journal.
There should be no surprise that Google is teaming with game developers, and especially of her intention to launch a new social network provisionally called “Google Me”.
Within this market, the social gaming applications are considered important to increase the range of services offered.
One of the most popular social network games, the Farmville, from Zynga, attracts 60 million active users per month. Moreover, it is estimated that players in Asia spend billions of dollars in games. In the United States, according to ThinkEquity, the revenue from games of the genre came to $ 700 million in 2009, with this figure expected to triple by 2012.
These numbers are attractive not only for Google but also for entertainment heavyweights like Disney, which bought Playdom by 563 million dollars.
An alternative to the Facebook would be welcome for many game developers, who seek a better deal for their products.
