Since the launch of Google Nexus One, there has bad been a flurry of requests for additional features from the consumer and most of this feedback was centered around the multitouch feature, that had been absent from the Nexus One. In just about every review, Google’s very first smart phone did great, but lost points in the multi touch arena. So, finally Google paid heed to the pouring feedback and has released crucial update for the device that not only adds new features but has also provided the Nexus One with the much in demand, multi touch demand.

The update for the Nexus One includes, Google Goggles which is a search service based on image recognition, a revamped version of Google Maps showcasing the all new night mode and most important of all, Google finally gave in to the public demand and has now enabled the multitouch support for Nexus Ones. Although the new update is a welcome move on Google’s part, but the fact remains that, international users have already been provided with this feature by default, be it in the case of Nexus One or Motorola Droid, but the users in the U.S had to wait for more than a month for the multitouch support. In a statement, a Google spokesperson said,

“Looking around the mobile industry, from Apple to Palm to HTC and Motorola – it’s clear that pinch-to-zoom technology has become a standard and popular way for users to interact with their mobile phones. Likewise, Android users can now truly benefit from this capability with the availability of Android 2.1, which powers a new class of devices with larger touchscreens and more interactive features. Unlike past devices, these phones have the processing power to deliver pinch-to-zoom, while still providing a great user experience. Based on these new capabilities and numerous requests from Android users, we decided to provide pinch-to-zoom capabilities with this new over-the-air software update for Nexus One devices.”
