Google Voice Now Acts As A Voice Spam Filter Too

The latest sensation from Google’s box of goodies, Google Voice has revealed that, it not only helps you control and organize your phone calls, but it also acts as a call spam filter for the users. These blocked numbers range from adult chat lines to free conference call numbers, thereby maintaining a level of security and privacy for the users.

This latest development was announced by Google, via a letter that it send to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), in regards to an investigation initiated by the telecom regulatory body, against a complaint filed by AT&T, stating that, Google was unethically blocking phone calls, via Google Voice especially to the rural areas of the United States.

In response to the complaint, Google stated that, the rules and regulations that are designed for communication network carriers cannot be applied to the Google Voice as the application is a completely free, web based software and cannot be categorized as a conventional network carrier. As per the protocols established by the FCC, network carriers such as AT&T, Verizon and others are prohibited to block of disallow calls to rural and more inland areas of America, where the connection charges for phones are extremely high.

However, Google has infact admitted to blocking several numbers such as adult chat lines etc. that are taking undue advantage of Google Voice free calling service to further their monetary goals. As per Google, such blocked numbers are less than one hundred.
